What is the P Visa?

The P visa is a temporary nonimmigrant work visa for individuals who are internationally recognized in their field. This includes:

  • P-1A: Internationally recognized athletes or athletic teams

  • P-1B: Members of internationally recognized entertainment groups

  • P-2: Artists or entertainers performing under a reciprocal exchange program

  • P-3: Artists or entertainers coming to develop, interpret, or teach a culturally unique program

Each category allows you to work legally in the U.S. for a specific employer or event.

Who Is Eligible for a P Visa?

You may qualify for a P visa if:

  • You have international recognition in your sport or entertainment field

  • You’re coming to the U.S. temporarily to participate in a specific performance, competition, or tour

  • You are part of a recognized exchange program or culturally unique presentation

  • You are support personnel who are essential to the performance
